How to Remove a Broken Dart Stem

If you break the stem of one of your darts, you can think there’s no way to rescue it.

So, how do I remove a broken dart stem? Well, there are a couple of ways to do so.

broken dart stems

1. Using a Dart Point

Use the point of another dart and use the point to turn the broken shaft to try and screw it out. If it does turn, it should come out easily.

2. Using a Dart Stem Removal Tool

If the stem is stuck in tight and you can’t make it turn, you can use a broken stem removal tool. All you need to do is insert the broken end into the tool, and it’ll bite into the broken plastic stem, apply pressure and turn it, and it should come out.

Most people don’t think to buy a removal tool, as they don’t think they’ll ever need it. But it can be a handy tool to have and only cost a couple of dollars.

3. Removing a Stem Without a Removal Tool

So, if you don’t have a removal tool, what else can you do?

You can use a small screwdriver by heating the end of the screwdriver and melting it into the plastic stem.

Firstly, you’ll need a flame to heat the end of the screwdriver. You can either use an open flame from the stove or a lighter.

This should take less than a minute to heat the screwdriver enough. Then we can push the screwdriver into the stem.

So now that the screwdriver has melted into the plastic, I should be able to turn it, and the stem will come out.

That’s one method of removing the stems, but it would be easier if you’ve got a lighter.

You could also use a needle for this, but I think it’s easy with the screwdriver because it’s easier to turn once it’s melted in.

So that’s how you remove a broken stem.
