How To Aim Darts To Improve Accuracy

To aim a dart, you must find the direct line of sight between your eye, the dart, and your target when taking your stance.

The key to improving your scoring in darts requires good aim, and good aim requires practice. Following these fundamentals will help improve your aim.

Take The Correct Stance

There are a couple of different stances to choose from in darts, none of which are incorrect. The most popular of those is the ‘side on’ stance, which is the default stance used by players of all levels.

Your stance significantly affects your consistency. Stand in a comfortable but firm position to retain your balance while throwing.

Remain Still

The first thing that any experienced darts player will tell you is to reduce body movement as much as possible while throwing.

Any sudden movements in your body while throwing will seriously affect your aim. This is why finding a good, solid stance is essential to improving your aim and consistency.

Point Your Elbow Towards The Target

With your side on stance, point the elbow of your throwing arm towards the board. Your elbow acts as a guide to point towards the target, and a pivot for your forearm to then generate the power in the throw.

Your forearm and hand should be the only part of your body that moves when throwing.

Aim The Dart Tip Upwards

While taking your aim, ensure that the tip of your dart is tilted slightly upward. This will give your dart the best trajectory when throwing.

The important thing to remember here is to ensure that the tip is never facing down while throwing, as this will significantly affect its flight trajectory.

You’ll need to focus on more than just throwing to become a good dart player. Learning how to aim your darts correctly will result in higher scores and more accurate throws.
